How to Enroll

Benefit elections must be made online using . Accessing the system will allow you to enroll in coverages as a New Hire or make changes during the annual open enrollment period.

Open Enrollment

The annual opportunity, held each Spring, that allows you to enroll or make changes in your health care benefits is Open Enrollment. Download the MPI:  Benefits Self Service User Guide [PDF] for instructions on updating your benefits.

New Hires

New Hires are strongly encouraged to attend a New Hire Welcome Session. 

Newly hired benefits-eligible employees must enroll in benefits within 31 days of their start date. Otherwise benefits may only be elected during the annual open enrollment period or due to a qualifying life event. Employees may access the MPI: Benefits Self Service system on or after their date of hire. An OHIO ID and password are required to log in. This is the same ID and password you use for your Ohio email.

The effective date of coverage for a new hire is their start date. If benefit elections are made, or changed, after a payroll has processed retroactive premiums will be deducted in the next payroll.

Follow these steps to enroll in benefits:

  1. Set up the requirement.
  2. Log in to My Personal Information (MPI).
    a. Visit:
    b. Click the My Personal Information option.
       You will need your OHIO ID and password to access MPI. This is the same ID and password you use for your Ohio email.
    c. Select the Benefits Self Service option.
    d. To make benefit elections and/or add dependents, follow the on-screen instructions* or refer to the Benefits Self Service User Guide [PDF].
  3. Remember to print or save your confirmation statement

Please Note: You will be required to provide documentation for dependents. For example, a copy of your marriage certificate is required to cover a spouse. Visit the Dependent Verification page to view a complete listing of required documents.

Changes Due to a Qualifying Life Event

Benefit changes due to a qualifying event must be made within 31 days of the qualifying event. Otherwise benefits may only be elected during the annual open enrollment. View the how to change page for more information.

Please Note:  You will be required to provide documentation supporting your qualifying life event. For example, for the Marriage life event, you will need to provide a copy of your Marriage Certificate. Visit /hr/benefits/verification-dependents to view a complete listing of required documents.
