Chemistry — Pre-Dentistry Major (B.S. or B.A.)
- Courses in chemistry, biochemistry, biology, mathematics and physics
- Preparation for dental school
- Accredited by American Chemical Society
Major code BS3312 or BA3312
Faculty Contact: Dr. Lauren McMills, director of general chemistry
Program Overview
To major in chemistry and prepare for admission to dental school, students have the option of completing either of two degree programs: one leading to a B.S. and the other to a B.A. degree. Variations on these programs are possible; students should consult with their adviser. See also the pre-dentistry major under Biological Sciences.
The Chemistry–Pre-Dentistry B.S. degree provides a sound background in the chemistry, biochemistry, biological sciences, mathematics and physics courses that are required for dental school.
Careers and Graduate School
Students with a B.S. degree in Chemistry–Pre-Dentistry typically go on to dental school. However, other higher education and career opportunities also exist depending upon the interest of the graduate.
Upon completing the requirements for the B.S. degree with a major in chemistry, students are eligible for professional status in the American Chemical Society. Completion of a B.A. degree in chemistry does not qualify students for certification.
