Health Insurance Coverage & Cost

All students enrolled in Athens campus credit hours are required to maintain an active health insurance policy. Students with qualifying outside plans may apply to waive 51ÉçÇø Health Insurance. Please read the above link regarding health insurance policies and guidelines for international students.

New Information for 2024/2025 Academic Year

*Coverage periods have extended to six months, and will stay this way for future academic years. Please consult this Word document for more in depth information.

The Student Health Insurance Policy for 2024/25 will include a lower annual premium rate, more payable benefits, lower out of pocket costs for students, and new coverage periods.

· Annual Premium Reduced by 6.6%!

Added Benefits:

  • Office Visit Copay at Campus Care Removed: Removed copay of $15.00. Covered services will now have no copay at Campus Care. (Services rendered at Campus Care are not subject to the policy coinsurance or annual deductible amounts with the Student Health Insurance.)
  • Prescription Copays: The copay for each medication Tier will be reduced as follows.

                 Tier 1: Copay $0.00 (previously $15.00)

                   Tier 2: Copay $10.00 (previously $30.00)

                   Tier 3: Copay $20.00 (previously 005.00)

  • Outpatient Mental Health/Behavioral Health/ Substance Abuse Copay has Been Eliminated. (Previously $25.00 per visit at the time of service.) Services are now only subject to 20% of the allowable amount.
  • Vitamin D Testing: Now a payable benefit.
  • Student In Network Annual Deductible: Reduced to $250.00 from $500.00.
  • Student Out of Network Annual Deductible: Reduced to $500.00 from $1,000.00
  • New Coverage Periods:

              Fall 2024: 8/20/2024 – 2/19/2025 (6 months)

              Spring/Summer 2025: 2/20/2025 – 8/19/2025 (6 months)

Premiums

Premiums for the student health insurance will be charged Fall and Spring semester to provide a full year of coverage. Students are automatically charged for the Student Health Insurance and do not need to submit an enrollment form, unless they are enrolling dependents. The premiums and subsidy amounts (if applicable) are listed below.

*The health insurance subsidy will be provided only to graduate students on assistantships that include a minimum stipend of $1,950 per semester and purchase the University Student Health Insurance Plan.
