Opportunities for Students to Get Involved

Society of Physics Students

The 51社区 Chapter of the Society of Physics Students (SPS) meets every Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m., in the Common Room in Clippinger Hall (Room 254) during the academic year. SPS welcomes undergraduate students from all physics-related departments and majors, including astronomy, science education, engineering, and other sciences.

Most meetings feature a guest speaker from the 51社区 faculty or another institution. Pizza and drinks are provided. SPS members participate throughout the year in departmental activities, community outreach, university research, and travel. Students may also be inducted into Sigma Pi Sigma National Physics Honor Society.

For more information about SPS, contact the adviser, Dr. Gang Chen, join our Facebook page, or join the group on a Tuesday at lunch.

Women in Physics & Astronomy

is a forum for women in physics and astronomy at all levels: professors, graduate and undergraduate students. Participants discuss their unique experiences as women studying and teaching science, in addition to providing a comfortable and friendly environment for those seeking help (that their collective wisdom provides!) on career development, growth and opportunities in our chosen fields.

Want to join? Women...faculty, postdocs, graduate students, undergraduate students in the Physics & Astronomy Department . Women from the department are added to a mailing list at the beginning of each academic year, from then they should start receiving information and invitation to meetings. To be added to the list, contact Dr. Nancy Sandler.

Physics & Astronomy Graduate Students

PandA GradS is a student organization that was founded in 2020 for the betterment of the physics graduate students' lives and well-being while in the department. The goal of the group is to not only foster camaraderie between students of all fields and years, but also to keep everyone informed of any important opportunities, duties, and/or events pertaining to their academic progress.

In addition to invited speakers, game nights, community outreach, hikes, and other activities, the group oversees the planning of the annual OHIO Physics & Astronomy fall picnic, as well as the Graduate Student Panel in the spring semester for first-year students.

PandA GradS meets fortnightly during the semester on Friday evenings directly following the departmental colloquium. For more information, contact the faculty advisor, Dr. Christian Drischler.
