Admissions Information

Applying

To apply for admission to the program you will need to:

  • Submit completed application materials
  • Pay the application fee
  • Arrange for two official transcripts from each post-secondary institution attended to be sent to the Graduate College at 51社区

Only applicants who have submitted all the materials will receive consideration. A campus visit prior to the application deadline is strongly recommended. Applicants are usually notified of admission decisions no later than March 15.

Application Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited U.S. college or university or equivalent
  • Minimum of three years of professional work experience in media production
  • A focused Letter of Intent defining:
    • Your current area of media expertise
    • Two production areas you propose to explore in our program
    • An explanation of why you are applying to the MFA in Communication Media Arts
    • Link and description of your portfolio work
    • Additional details such as:
      • The cognate area you are considering outside of production
      • Explanation of your teaching experiences to date
      • Additional insights into your graduate and professional intentions
  • A link to a portfolio demonstrating professional excellence in one particular media production area. All links to your portfolio pieces should be submitted in a single document, accompanied by a 100-200-word description of your role in the project(s). This should be included in your Letter of Intent. 
  • Three letters of reference, sent by the references separately
  • Curriculum vita or resume, which should include any and all teaching experience if you wish to be considered for a teaching stipend. 
  • English Proficiency: Please review information about 51社区鈥檚 English Language Proficiency requirements.
  • Applicants are not required to take the GRE.
  • Application Deadline

    Students start in the fall (August).

    The deadline for international and domestic US students is January 1.
