Internships set you up
- Apply your classroom learning in professional environments. An internship provides you with the opportunity to develop, hone, and apply the skills, theories and concepts you learned in the classroom.
- Gain exposure to your chosen field. Participating in internships can be a great way to get a taste of the actual professional experience in the field you鈥檙e interested in pursuing after graduation. Not only does this experience add work experience to your resum茅, it will also help you figure out what you want to do after college.
- Establish critical networking connections. You鈥檒l network and start building contacts in your field, which may be one of the most important components of an internship. Everyone you meet is a potential contact for advice and referrals once you鈥檙e on the job market.
- Gain coveted work experience. An internship provides the work experience that allows you put your education into practice, develop leadership skills, and gain a competitive advantage from having performed the job already before you start looking for a permanent position.
- Improve your chances on the job market. Research shows that job applicants who have completed an internship are more likely to land a job than those who don鈥檛.
