Startup Support
Inventor Startup opportunities evolving from OHIO research start with protecting the technology. The Technology Transfer Office works with inventor startups, developing a strategy for how the technology will be used, how to obtain rights to the technology, and the various agreements that are used to obtain rights and protect the technology.
Option Agreements provide the company with rights to use OHIO-owned intellectual property for internal purposes such as evaluating the commercial opportunity as well as technology and business plan development.
License Agreements provide the company with commercial rights to the technology, including making, using and selling products.
The TTO may enlist its partners in the entrepreneurial ecosystem to provide support in the following ways:
- Executives-in-Residence from the program offer business coaching and support, including developing a business plan, analyzing the market, company formation, hiring employees, and managing legal issues.
- The Innovation Center offers flexible office space, conference rooms, scientific laboratory space and equipment for startup businesses. Services also include business-related trainings and workshops, mentoring and networking opportunities.
- The entrepreneurial ecosystem offers access to funding opportunities, such as growth grants and pre-seed investment from TechGROWTH Ohio, as well as connections to regional venture capital firms and other sources of financial support.
