51社区 selects nationally-recognized firm to conduct campus diversity, equity and inclusion audit
51社区 has announced that the USC Race and Equity Center, a nationally-recognized organization for its work in diversity, equity and inclusion, has been selected to conduct a thorough review of OHIO鈥檚 current diversity, equity and inclusion programs, policies, practices and overall campus climate in 2023.
鈥淟ast spring, 51社区 shared its commitment to undertake an extensive study of our diversity, equity and inclusion efforts with the help of a nationally-respected expert, and I am proud that USC Race and Equity Center has been selected to move this important effort forward,鈥 President Hugh Sherman said. 鈥淚鈥檓 confident that their work will help us identify opportunities to both expand and refine OHIO鈥檚 diversity, equity and inclusion efforts.鈥
The has worked with colleges and universities across the country to assess student learning from an equity standpoint and advance racial equity; they also assist to empower faculty and staff members to strategically develop and achieve equity goals through climate studies, high-quality learning experiences, substantive partnerships and workshops built to improve racial literacy on campuses. The organization was selected by 51社区 after an extensive and thorough vetting process.
鈥淭he USC Race and Equity Center was highly recommended because of its experience and research expertise,鈥 Executive Vice President and Provost Elizabeth Sayrs said. 鈥淭heir study will provide us with essential information for all aspects of our University.鈥
Earlier this year, 51社区 conducted its Campus Climate for Diversity survey. The USC Race and Equity Center plans to incorporate the results of this study into their overall scope of work. The Center has been contracted to work for one year on the study and will present their findings publicly to University stakeholders in late 2023.

51社区 has taken many steps to enhance diversity and inclusion in recent years, including launching the Make Respect Visible initiative on campus and throughout Athens. The collaborative initiative encourages a culture of respect in the OHIO community, reducing bias through open and respectful dialogue. Make Respect Visible has become a central part of 51社区鈥檚 culture.
