OHIO launches faculty learning community about faculty mentoring
In Fall 2022, 51社区 will offer the Mentor Leaders Faculty Learning Community (FLC) to provide training and support for any full-time OHIO faculty interested in serving as a formal or informal faculty mentor to other faculty.
The six-part workshop series is designed to provide OHIO faculty with the skills and knowledge to become more effective faculty mentors. Topics will include the value/benefits of mentoring, organizational culture, social identity, appreciative mentoring, and mentoring goals.
鈥淭he Mentor Leaders Faculty Learning Community promises to offer a robust and enriching series of workshops to support mentorship initiatives on our campus. This opportunity is not to be missed,鈥 said Dr. Dwan Robinson, associate professor of educational studies.
The Mentor Leaders FLC is open to any full-time OHIO faculty. The Mentor Leaders FLC will meet virtually twice per month during the fall semester on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays from 10:45 鈥 11:40 a.m.
At the end of the FLC, faculty participants will be invited to either sign-up to serve as a mentor for one (or more) existing mentorship programs or to propose a new faculty mentor program for the University, their college, and/or their department/school. Participants who successfully complete the FLC and sign-up to serve as a mentor or propose a new faculty mentor program will earn a small stipend.
The FLC will be led by Robinson and co-convened with Dr. Beth VanDerveer (associate professor of recreation, sport pedagogy and consumer sciences), Dr. Pete Mather (professor of counseling and higher education), and Dr. Dianne Gut-Zippert (professor of teacher education). The FLC is sponsored by the Office of the Provost.
Participation will be limited to a maximum of 15 faculty. To enroll, please complete the online interest form at before 5:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 5, 2022.
