OHIO launches the Emerging Leader Academy
In Fall 2022, 51社区 will launch the OHIO Emerging Leader Academy (OHIO ELA) - a faculty development program designed to provide current and future academic leaders with the skills and knowledge to become more effective academic leaders. The academy is designed as a yearlong, 10-part workshop series focused on exploring and building the skills to meet leadership responsibilities.
鈥淭he OHIO ELA was developed by the 2021-22 Mid-American Academic Leadership Program (MAC ALDP) Faculty Fellows,鈥 said Katie Hartman, vice provost for faculty development. 鈥淭hey wanted to design a faculty leadership program as an opportunity for self-reflection and strategic leadership. They designed five workshops to allow participants to self-reflect on their leadership styles, strengths, and competencies and five workshops to build skills in strategic planning, team building, recruiting talent, and managing conflict.鈥
The OHIO ELA is sponsored by the Office of the Provost and will be co-chaired by Hartman and Char Miller, associate professor and interim director of the school of nursing. Select workshops will also be led by Mick Andzulis, associate professor of marketing, and Dwan Robinson, associate professor of educational studies.
鈥淥ur goal is to equip the participants with meaningful tools and resources to support their future goals in academic leadership while facilitating networking and building relationships between current and emerging OHIO leaders,鈥 said Miller.
The OHIO ELA is open to full-time OHIO faculty who are currently in academic leadership roles (e.g., program directors, department chairs, school directors) and faculty who may not be current leaders yet, but are interested in future academic leadership roles. Participants are expected to possess strong leadership potential, a record of achievement in their current and past positions, and an expressed interest in administrative leadership.
The OHIO ELA will meet throughout the year on select Thursdays from 3:05 鈥 5:00 p.m. The academy is limited to a maximum of 18 participants.
To apply, applicants are asked to submit a cover letter describing interest/goals and a current vita. Applicants are also invited (but not required) to submit a letter of support from an academic leader.
