Call for Provost Office Faculty Fellows
In order to include multiple faculty perspectives in the development of academic initiatives, we are starting a cohort of faculty fellows, beginning with four faculty fellows for Academic Year 20-21. The fellows program offers significant professional development and an opportunity to help shape academic strategy across the university. Depending on the needs of the home department or school, faculty fellows will receive a stipend and/or course release(s). Fellows will interact regularly with me, my senior staff, colleagues across campuses, and members of their fellows’ cohort. Fellows will devote approximately 10 hours per week to this work. Specific projects for each fellow will be aligned with the fellow’s interests, experience, and research (where applicable) to the extent possible.
Student Success Fellow
Goal: To support the university goal of closing equity gaps for all students and to advance strategies to support student success.
The Student Success Fellow will assist with initiatives to enhance student success, such as programs to increase and close equity gaps in student retention, persistence and graduation and enhance academic opportunities to improve the student experience. The Student Success Fellow also will help to develop new strategies to improve the advising landscape across the university to ensure all students have holistic academic, career, and developmental advising, including the phased implementation of the Guarantee Plus Graduation Plan.
Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Fellow
Goal: To advance the evaluation and improvement of teaching and learning.
The TLA Fellow will work closely with the Office of Instructional Innovation, the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Analytics, and the Teaching, Learning, and Assessment Committee on projects such as researching and supporting assessment methods for teaching and experiential learning, assisting with the development of teaching effectiveness workshops, and supporting more equitable policies and practices to assess teaching and student learning.
Undergraduate Programs Fellow
Goal: Advance the evaluation and improvement of undergraduate programs.
The Undergraduate Programs Fellow will support projects such as evaluation of existing and development of new undergraduate programs, liaising with the General Education Committee to support gen ed course development and implementation, and supporting the development of curricular-based experiential learning. The UP Fellow also will assist University Curriculum Council in aligning the undergraduate program development process with the Ohio Department of Education and Higher Learning Commission processes.
Faculty Development Fellow
Goal: To advance equitable policies and practices to support professional success for faculty.
The Faculty Development Fellow will support projects such as researching and implementing new approaches to faculty orientation, developing faculty connections across programs and colleges, developing support for tenure and promotion, and researching and developing equitable hiring, retention, and tenure and promotion practices.
Eligibility: The Faculty Development Fellow must be a tenured faculty member (or have submitted their tenure dossiers for consideration in AY 20-21); both tenured (or tenure dossiers submitted for AY 20-21) and full-time instructional faculty may apply for the Student Success, TLA, and Undergraduate Program fellow positions. Fellows should have an interest in institutional strategy, strengthening our culture of support for students and faculty, identifying and helping to remove institutional barriers, and collaborating with colleagues from all campuses and colleges. Faculty members from all campuses and locations are welcome to apply. The Provost’s office is strongly committed to actionable steps to improve diversity, equity, and inclusion, and faculty fellows who are similarly committed are strongly encouraged to apply. Faculty from minoritized groups are especially encouraged to apply.
Application Process: Please send an updated CV and a brief cover letter explaining why you are interested in serving as a 2020–21 Faculty Fellow. Faculty may apply for multiple fellow positions if interests, background, and research areas warrant. Email your application materials to by 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 21.
Sincerely,
Elizabeth Sayrs
Executive Vice President and Provost
