Training Week Information

The Marching 110 is open to any students enrolled at 51社区. Music Majors make up less then 20% of the 225-member band, and the remaining students represent a broad range of majors from all over campus. The Marching 110 training week begins in the fall, one week prior to the start of fall classes. The week begins with incoming member training on the first two days, followed by the return of upperclassmen to training week the next. On the evening of the third day, music and marching auditions are held. That night, membership information is posted. The Marching 110's directors choose 176 individuals for the pregame block, and 192 for the halftime block and additional members to make up the 225-member organization.

Time Commitment

The Marching 110 consumes many hours a week in rehearsals, performances, and other events that are required of the band during the season. The 110 rehearses every day from 5:30-7:00 p.m., as well as weekly Thursday evening rehearsals in the Walter Field House and game-day rehearsals in Peden Stadium.

The Marching 110 lead a procession up Richland Ave following the First Year Student Convocation.

Become a Member

The process of becoming a member of the 51社区 Marching 110 begins during your senior year in high school.  Sometime during the fall, you should submit your application to 51社区. Upon receiving your admittance to 51社区, you will need to complete the online audition process during the spring.

The online audition process for brass and woodwind players includes some scales and etudes, plus an optional excerpt if you'd like to submit one. For percussionists, an audition camp is held in the late spring, and includes several rudiments and examples. All audition information is posted here in the late winter or early spring each year for the following season.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are only 110 members admitted?

No. The 2021 Marching 110 consisted of 230 members. The number "110" originally referred to the number of members; now the number "110" represents the amount of effort (110%) expected of each member.

How do I become a member?

The Marching 110 utilizes video auditions to select new members each season. Exact audition information and deadlines are available in late winter/early spring.

How do I audition?

The initial auditions for the Marching 110 occur in the spring each year, and are done via electronic submission for winds and an audition clinic on campus for percussion. This audition determines membership for all new members. A second round of placement auditions is held during Training Week to determine the performance blocks.

What is the instrumentation?

We use the following: clarinets, alto and tenor saxophones, mellophones, trumpets, trombones, euphoniums, tubas and percussion. The percussion section is comprised of snare drums, timbales, tenor drums, cymbals, and bass drums.  Please note that we do not use flutes, a flag corps, or a percussion pit.

When is training week?

Training week is typically held one week prior to the beginning of classes. Exact dates are posted by early July.
