Master's of Educational Leadership with Principal Licensure

Overview

Through a balanced online and in-class instructional approach, the Master’s in Educational Leadership with Principal Licensure is a 36-credit program completed over three semesters. The courses align with National Educational Leadership Preparation (NELP) standards, embed key Ohio educational initiatives, and include an internship that prepares candidates for the required Ohio licensure exam and school leadership. The program format is a cohort model that meets on Saturdays to accommodate working professionals. New cohorts begin each summer (applications due by April 15)  at the Athens and various regional campuses. 

The M.Ed. in Educational Leadership with Principal Licensure program does not permit full-time enrollment in residence at 51ÉçÇø and an I-20 cannot be issued. International students seeking an M.Ed. in Educational Leadership must apply to the non-licensure program (ME5028).

Admissions Requirements

  • Online application: Degree program code ME6229 (Athens) or ME5027 (Regional)
  • Transcripts from all institutions of higher education attended for bachelor’s and master’s education with an overall minimum GPA of 3.0 out of 4.0 scale (unless from 51ÉçÇø) 
  • Active professional teaching license (or the ability to obtain one before the program begins)
  • Three letters of professional recommendation that describe the academic skills and professional potential of the applicant   
  • Statement of purpose (2-4 pages, double-spaced) to assess the applicant’s writing skills, career commitment, leadership potential, and professional goals
  • Current résumé/CV is preferred but not required.    
  • Note: For international applicants who are non-native speakers of English, a minimum TOEFL or IELTS is expected, as indicated on the Graduate College English Proficiency website.
