Graduate Certificate in Appalachian Health
The graduate certificate in Appalachian Health is designed to provide students with a specialized education in Appalachian health. It will provide students with the foundational knowledge of Appalachian history, culture and health that will allow them to develop an intense understanding of the context in which they will be working if they choose to work in the region. This specialized focus supports the educational workforce development needs of public health employees not only in Ohio but within the broader Appalachian region.
Admission Requirements
There are no admission requirements beyond University graduate admission requirements. This certificate is open to all 51ÉçÇø graduate students on the Athens campus. Talk to your academic advisor about adding the certificate and visit the to learn how to declare the certificate.
Curriculum
Through the certificate program, you will learn more about Appalachia, rural health disparities that may impact those in the area, and environmental health sciences. To complete the graduate certificate in Appalachian Studies, you need to complete three courses (9 credit hours).
- HLTH 5220 – Graduate Seminar in Appalachian Studies
- HLTH 6140 – Rural Health Disparities
- HLTH 6760 – Environmental Health Sciences in Public Health
