About Dr. Layton

Dr. Layton is a scholar of Latin American politics. His research addresses questions related to the broad themes of democratic legitimacy, political representation, and citizen empowerment across Latin America with an emphasis on the Brazilian case. His published work demonstrates how social and institutional context shapes the expression of democratic citizenship using both quantitative and qualitative empirical methodologies. He has published research in top political science and Latin American area studies journals, including American Journal of Political Science, World Politics, Comparative Political Studies, Research & Politics, Latin American Politics and Society, and Journal of Politics in Latin America.
