Mark J. Cappone
Colonel (Retired) Mark Cappone is an adjunct workshop instructor at the Voinovich Academy for Excellence in Public Service. Mark most recently served as a Senior Executive in Residence in the Academy from 2019-2024, where he coordinated leadership development initiatives in the Appalachian Region of Ohio and provided executive & leadership coaching to Academy partners.
Mark previously served as Assistant Director of the Ohio Department of Veterans Services, coordinating agency staff functions and partnering with federal, state, and community stakeholders as a cabinet-level advocate for Ohio’s nearly 800,000 military veterans.
He also served in the U.S. Army, holding numerous organizational leadership roles and retiring in 2016 as Commander of the 371st Sustainment Brigade and Chief of Staff for the Ohio Army National Guard.
Mark is an International Coaching Federation-credentialed coach who provides executive, leadership, and team coaching at all levels of the private and public sector. He also serves as an instructor in several Department of Defense leadership development initiatives and as an adjunct lecturer in The Ohio State University Fisher College of Business’ Dean’s Leadership Academy.
Mark is an 51ÉçÇø graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science from the Honors Tutorial College. He is also a graduate of the Duquesne University Professional Coach Certification Program, holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College, as well as a master’s degree in administration from Central Michigan University.
