Official Biography

Major (Ret) John Hansen is a native of Princeton, Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S. Army out of high school in 1983 and was commissioned in 1993 through U.S. Army Officer Candidate School (OCS), Ft Moore, Georgia, as an Armor/Cavalry Officer.

His civilian and military education includes: Bachelor’s Degree with a double major in Political Science and History (University of Texas, El Paso, 1997), a Master’s Degree in Political Science (OHIO University, 2012), Defense Information School (DINFOS); Primary Leader Development Course (PLDC); OCS; Armor Basic and Advance Course; Scout Platoon Leader Course; Combined Arms Staff School (CAS3); Airborne School; and ROTC Recruiting Operations Course

Mr. Hansen’s active duty assignments have included, Radio/TV broadcaster, American Forces Network-Europe; Public Affairs NCOIC, White Sands Missile Range, NM; Tank and Scout Platoon Leader, Squadron S1, 1st Sqdn 3rd Armored Cavalry Regt, Ft Bliss, TX; Battalion S1, MILPO Company Commander, Ft Riley, KS; Admin Officer, Cleveland US Army Recruiting Battalion; FORSCOM Officer Strength Manager, Ft McPherson, GA; XVIII Airborne Corps Officer Strength Director, Ft Bragg, NC; Chief, G1 MWR, Multi-National Corp/Force Iraq, Camp Victory, Iraq; and XVIII Airborne Corps Public Affairs Plans Officer, Ft Bragg, NC. Since retirement from active duty, he has served as US Army Cadet Command (ROTC) Recruiting Officer, University of Akron (2006-2008) and has served as the Recruiting Operations Officer for OHIO University, Athens, OH, since 2008.

His awards and decorations include: Bronze Star Medal; Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (2 OLC), Joint Service Commendation Medal, Army Commendation Medal (4 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), National Defense Service Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service and Expeditionary Medal, Good Conduct Medal (3 OLC), NCO Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, Meritorious Unit Citation, and Parachutist Badge.

Mr. Hansen is married with seven children and five grandchildren.
