Associate of Applied Science in Human Services

The Human Services Technology program (HST) offers a two-year course of study leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree. The program offers a generalist approach, which provides knowledge and skills applicable to a diversity of settings, such as mental health, social services and corrections. After completing the program, students can opt to move into the Social Work program to pursue their bachelor鈥檚 degree. Students may be eligible to apply for a Social Work Assistant certification and/or a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant license in Ohio dependent upon current licensure or certification laws, practicum work experience, and supervision specifications.

    Potential Careers


    Students may be eligible to apply for a Social Work Assistant certification in the State of Ohio and/or a Chemical Dependency Counselor Assistant license in the State of Ohio dependent upon current licensure or certification laws, practicum work experience, and supervision specifications.

    • As of 2023, Social and Human Service Assistants earn an annual median wage of $41,410.
    • Employment demand for Social and Human Service Assistants in Ohio is projected to grow by 9% by 2032.

    The Human Services Technology program offers:

    • Flexible scheduling with coursework offered primarily online.
    • A variety of off-campus educational and training experiences made possible through cooperative arrangements with area human service agencies and programs.
    • Small classes which permit individual attention and ample opportunities for contact with the instructional staff
    • Excellent instructors and faculty who, in addition to their academic service, have had many years of professional work experience in the human service field.

Program Admission Requirements

First-Year Students

Anyone who holds a high school diploma or has a GED certificate is eligible for admission to any 51社区 regional campus. Regional campuses have a rolling admissions policy which means that students may be admitted anytime during the year. Applicants will be accepted until class begins each semester. However, prospective students are advised to begin the application process as soon as possible so that they may be given important dates and deadlines in a timely manner. Freshmen applicants are encouraged to complete an online application for enrollment.

Transfer and Current OHIO Students

You are a transfer applicant if you have completed nine or more semester (12 quarter) hours at another institution after you graduated from high school. If you have completed fewer than nine semester hours, you will apply as a freshman applicant. To apply as a transfer student, applicants are encouraged to complete an online application for enrollment.
