Patrick Kelley, a graduate of the third cohort of the Emerging Leaders program in the College of Business, has been awarded the inaugural 2024 Emerging Leaders Alumni of the Year Award.
Kelley鈥檚 journey is a testament to his commitment to excellence, leadership and community, making him a true embodiment of what it means to be a Bobcat.
After graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2019 with a degree in marketing and a sales certificate from the College of Business, Kelley鈥檚 academic achievements were just the beginning. His time at 51社区 wasn鈥檛 solely about classroom success鈥擪elley actively sought out opportunities to lead, mentor, and serve others.
Kelley joined the Emerging Leaders (EL) program his junior year, driven by 鈥渁 genuine interest in growing his leadership capabilities and skill sets.鈥 His commitment to leadership development wasn鈥檛 just personal but about contributing to something greater.
After forming deep connections with fellow Emerging Leaders, Kelley and several peers chose to serve as peer mentors during their senior year, fully embracing the chance to support and inspire the next cohort of Emerging Leaders.
Reflecting on his time in the program, Kelley shared how the lessons learned in EL extended far beyond campus. The focus on emotional intelligence, soft skills, and authentic leadership has shaped him as a professional and an individual committed to uplifting those around him.
鈥淓L didn鈥檛 just make me a better leader鈥攊t made me a better person and community member,鈥 Kelley said. 鈥淭he framework it provided opened doors for internships, a full-time career, and, ultimately, helped me succeed in life.鈥
Patrick Kelley reflects on what the award means to him.
A key element of Kelley鈥檚 growth came from interactions with alumni deeply invested in the program.
鈥淓ngaging with so many phenomenal Bobcat alumni gave me the confidence and encouragement to believe in what鈥檚 possible鈥攆or my career and for making a difference in the community,鈥 he explained.
After graduating from 51社区, Kelley couldn鈥檛 bear to part with the Bobcat community that had given him so much. Today, he serves as the president of the College of Business Society of Alumni and Friends, determined to provide current students with the same support and guidance he received. His journey from scholarship recipient to society president speaks to his relentless dedication to becoming the leader he aspired to be.
鈥淚 drove away from OU (kicking and screaming) with a self-defined understanding, and really鈥攁 commitment to myself,鈥 Kelley said. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 just what Bobcats do. They return to campus and help develop future generations in any way possible. So, that鈥檚 just what I鈥檝e done.鈥
Kelley鈥檚 impact doesn鈥檛 end there. In addition to being president of the Society of Alumni and Friends, he serves as vice chair and student mentor on the Ralph and Luci Schey Sales Centre Executive Board, guiding the next generation of sales professionals with the same enthusiasm and passion he鈥檚 shown throughout his career.
Kelley鈥檚 heart for service extends into the broader community outside of 51社区. As a dedicated YP board member and Big for , Kelley is making a profound difference in the life of a young boy in the program.
鈥淲e clicked from the start,鈥 he shared. 鈥淚t鈥檚 been amazing to watch him grow, and I can assure you鈥攈e鈥檚 not the only one benefiting from the experience!鈥
