The 51社区 Police Department (OUPD) will host its eighth-annual Department Recognition Ceremony at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2024, in the Walter Hall Rotunda on OHIO鈥檚 Athens Campus.
Doors will open at 6:30 p.m.; light refreshments will be provided.
In addition to recognizing its staff and community partners, OUPD will be kicking off its bicentennial celebration during this special event.
OUPD traces its roots back to 1824 when the 51社区 Board of Trustees made its first appointment for the security of OHIO鈥檚 campus. Today, the department is home to 31 sworn police officers, five communications officers and two clerical support staff members. Their team operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.
OUPD鈥檚 Department Recognition Ceremony is open to the public, and all are welcome to join the University community in celebrating OUPD's dedicated staff, storied history and longstanding commitment to professionalism, integrity and humanity.
