Exciting developments in research administration at 51社区: Cayuse modules launching soon

51社区鈥檚 Division of Research is excited to share that the first two modules for Cayuse, OHIO鈥檚 new electronic research administration software (eRA), are set to launch on Feb. 15, 2024.

The two modules are Human Ethics, which will provide researchers the ability to submit studies with human subjects to Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and Outside Interests, which will allow researchers to disclose financial conflicts of interest and conflicts of commitment. The remaining Cayuse modules will follow in the upcoming year.

Human Ethics module: facilitating ethical research with ease

The first of the two modules is Human Ethics. This module is replacing the current LEO 鈥淚RB Application鈥 module. Built for researchers who are submitting protocols with human subjects, the Human Ethics module will enable researchers to submit and track their studies within the Cayuse platform. New IRB protocols will be submitted in Cayuse starting on Feb. 15, 2024.

Existing studies in LEO will need to be migrated by completing a new protocol submission to the Cayuse platform before their yearly renewal date or by April 1, 2025, for studies that do not expire. For more information, please visit the Human Ethics information page.

Outside Interests module: simplifying conflict disclosures

The second of the two modules is Outside Interests and is used by those listed as an 鈥淚nvestigator鈥 on a sponsored project to disclose financial conflicts of interest and conflict of commitment or for investigators conducting research with human subjects to disclose perceived or actual conflicts of interest with a particular IRB study.

The Outside Interests module will replace the current LEO 鈥淐onflict of Interest鈥 module. Cayuse鈥檚 module provides an annual disclosure and a research-based disclosure.  Initially, the Outside Interests module will be available for IRB studies but will become widespread during the new annual campaign set for Aug. 1, 2024.

Looking ahead

There will be several opportunities to experience the new modules through Microsoft Teams information sessions hosted by the Office of Research Compliance. The complete set of dates and times for the information sessions will be listed on the Office of Research Compliance website.

As you experience the new Human Ethics and Outside Interests modules, please reach out with feedback and questions at cayuse@ohio.edu.

Detailed information on the Cayuse implementation plan, the transition from LEO, and a dynamic FAQ section can be found on the Cayuse Research Administration Software webpage.
