Senior Associate Registrar Bob DeLong retiring after 39+ years of service

Bob DeLong, senior associate registrar, will retire effective Dec. 31, 2023, after nearly four decades of service to 51社区, its students, faculty and advisors.

DeLong began his career in the College of Arts and Sciences as a data processing specialist in 1984. He was promoted to computer specialist due to his deep technical knowledge. In 1997, he transitioned to the Office of the University Registrar to serve as assistant registrar for degree audit and technical support. He served as acting university registrar twice and was promoted to associate registrar for degree audit prior to serving as senior associate registrar.

The Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) tracks progress on requirements toward a student鈥檚 chosen certificate, minor or degree. DeLong has been instrumental in reviewing curriculum and in updating and enhancing the system to ensure accurate DARS reports are available for students, faculty and staff.

While working full-time and raising a family, DeLong was also able to complete the Bachelor of Science in Communication by completing the communication systems management major in 2002.

鈥淏ob has contributed a lot of time and energy to ensure that students have an accurate DARS report. He has spent countless hours analyzing curriculum, students鈥 records, and writing queries and views to ensure that data is accurate, and records are processed correctly. I will miss Bob鈥檚 deep analysis of students鈥 records and his ability to identify when there are issues that need resolved,鈥 said Deb Benton, associate provost for student success technology strategy and DeLong鈥檚 former supervisor. 鈥淏ob has devoted 39+ years to 51社区, and I am excited to see him retire to spend time with his family and especially his grandchildren. He is deserving of a wonderful retirement!鈥

The University community is invited to celebrate DeLong鈥檚 retirement on Friday, Dec. 8, 2023, from 2-4 p.m. at the 1804 Lounge on the fifth floor of Baker University Center. Brief remarks will be given around 2:30 p.m.

Inquiries regarding degree audit can be directed to Julnasha (Nasha) Morehead, assistant registrar for degree audit, who has trained under DeLong since her hire in early 2023.
