A delegation from Chubu University, led by President Yoshimi Takeuchi, visited 51社区 during International Education Week in November in order to celebrate the historic partnership between the two institutions.
The partnership dates back to 1973 and has benefited both universities in countless ways over the past 50 years.
During International Education Week, the two universities signed a renewal of the Memorandum of Understanding and held meetings to discuss how the partnership can further benefit students and faculty at both institutions. In addition, Chubu and OHIO representatives officially dedicated the gift of 50 new cherry trees from Chubu University. The trees were donated in honor of Chairman Emeritus Atsuo Iiyoshi, who received an OHIO Honorary Doctor of Science at the Spring 2023 commencement.
The two universities also held the official groundbreaking ceremony for the new Friendship Park and Pavilion, which will be located in the grove of cherry trees near the Hocking River and the Convocation Center.
The cherry trees planted in that areas, as well as in other locations on 51社区鈥檚 West Green were gifts from Chubu University in 1979, 2003 and 2023.
The strong partnership was also recognized during the OHIO Football game on Nov. 15, and additional events were held on OHIO鈥檚 Athens campus.
OHIO's collaboration with Chubu University began 50 years ago with faculty exchanges, and over the years has grown to include study away and exchange programs, the renovation of the Yamada International House, and the Chubu University Japanese Collection in OHIO鈥檚 Alden Library.
