Elevating research at 51社区
In recent weeks, the American Council on Education and the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching announced changes to the framework used to establish a university鈥檚 Carnegie Classification, including their plans to move to a defined and measurable threshold for determining which universities are classified as R1 institutions.
While OHIO鈥檚 R1 (Very High Research Activity) research classification is unlikely to change as a result of this updated framework, it underscores the need for OHIO to continue to make intentional steps to sustain and grow its sponsored research funding and provide the support necessary to further elevate the University鈥檚 ongoing commitments to research, scholarship and discovery.
Elements of such support are already taking shape, both through the Discover Work Group, which has been tasked with exploring the University鈥檚 research and discovery goals as part of OHIO鈥檚 Dynamic Strategy, and the recent elevation of the University鈥檚 Vice President of Research role.
In the coming months, OHIO leadership looks forward to sharing additional updates via email and through OHIO News. Additional information about OHIO鈥檚 R1 classification is available online.
