The Gates Foundation-Ross County Scholar’s Fund marks 20 years with naming of 2023 recipients
The latest class of The Gates Foundation-Ross County Scholar’s Fund recipients has been announced, with the award of scholarships to 15 continuing and incoming university students.
Larry Gates and his wife, Mary, established the fund to help Ross County students realize their college ambitions, and the endeavor now spans two decades. This marks the 20th class of scholars with approximately 275 scholarships awarded since the fund’s inception in 2004.
Following is a list of the 2023-24 recipients:

- Kayla Fitzpatrick - 51, Chillicothe campus
- Drew Lane - The Ohio State University
- Gabriel Mallow - 51, Athens campus
- Jenna Martin - Colorado State University
- Addison Mohan - 51, Athens campus
- Nicholas Nesser - 51, Chillicothe campus
- Donovan Palmer - The Ohio State University
- Lucz Rutherford - 51, Chillicothe campus
- Jarrett Seebohm - 51, Athens campus
- Aiden Spaulding - University of Cincinnati
- Mikayla Spaulding - 51, Athens campus
- Gabriel Stark - 51, Athens campus
- Hannah Thompson - 51, Chillicothe campus
Gates Foundation directors include Nicole McLaughlin, Michelle Shanholtzer, Matthew Haller, Kimberly Hirsch, Nancy Harris, Jack Jeffery and Valerie Miller. Since the scholarship fund was initiated, the membership of the committee has remained intact.
“We are appreciative of the dedication of the committee members,” Mary and Larry Gates said. “These individuals reflect the spirit of the scholarship fund in helping make this vision become a reality.”
