Menard Family George Washington Forum hosts 'America’s Rivalry with China and Why It’s Vital to Confront Beijing' on Feb. 22

The hosts discussing "America’s Rivalry with China and Why It’s Vital to Confront Beijing" on Wednesday, Feb. 22, at 7:30 p.m. in the Galbreath Chapel on the College Green.

Colby is co-founder and principal of The Marathon Initiative, a policy initiative focused on developing strategies to prepare the United States for an era of sustained great power competition. Previously, Colby was from 2018-2019 the Director of the Defense Program at the Center for a New American Security, where he led the center’s work on defense issues. Before that, he served as the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Strategy and Force Development from 2017-2018. In that role, he served as the lead official in the development and rollout of the Department’s preeminent strategic planning guidance, the 2018 National Defense Strategy (NDS). His most recent book is The Strategy of Denial: American Defense in an Age of Great Power Conflict (2021).

"Mr. Colby’s visit could not be more timely considering recent events. We are all waiting for answers regarding security, surveillance, and who exactly is behind the UFOs. Mr. Colby has unparalleled familiarity with the world of strategy and defense and tackling questions related to the wellbeing of the citizenry, so this will be an opportunity to get a seasoned expert’s take. There might not be another issue out there with as diverse a set of viewpoints as U.S.-China relations, and one of the objectives of the Menard Family George Washington Forum is to offer a setting for those conversations to take place. It should be a thought-provoking event and all are welcome," said Cortney Rodet, associate professor of economics in the College of Arts and Sciences and director of the The Menard Family George Washington Forum

This event is free and open to the public.
