Recent graduate is living out her professional sports videography dream thanks to OHIO and WOUB
When Eileen Eidelberg came to 51社区 in 2018 from Herndon, Virginia, she knew she wanted to study communications and was interested in being involved in sports.
鈥淢y dad was an 51社区 graduate, and I attended the High School Media Workshop at 51社区 in 2016,鈥 said Eidelberg. 鈥淚 knew the Scripps College of Communication had many opportunities for me to explore my path.鈥
Once she was accepted to Scripps during her sophomore year, she took a sports cinematography class with then WOUB Producer/Director Evan Shaw. He told her about the opportunities to gain hands-on professional experience videotaping live sporting events at WOUB.
鈥淚 started working at WOUB on the high school football show Gridiron Glory,鈥 said Eidelberg. 鈥淚 also worked on the WOUB high school basketball program Hardwood Heroes. I videotaped games and worked studio camera for the show. I learned how to shoot football and basketball properly and got better every week.鈥
The integrated media major then started working with 51社区 Athletics and the college鈥檚 ESPN3 class. ESPN3 is a curriculum-based learning experience in conjunction with Ohio Athletics and the Mid-American Conference to put on productions. The students work in every position. Eidelberg was able to do work with 51社区 Bobcat football, women鈥檚 and men鈥檚 basketball, wrestling and volleyball.
鈥淚t was a great experience to learn and grow in what I wanted to do,鈥 said Eidelberg.
After graduation in May of 2022, Eidelberg started working as a camera operator for the Washington Nationals. She also got the chance to work an NFL pre-season game for the Washington Commanders, which has led to other freelance opportunities.
鈥WOUB really did help me with my networking abilities and getting to be more comfortable asking questions and getting me ready for the real world outside of college,鈥 said Eidelberg. 鈥淚鈥檓 so thankful for the opportunities I got at WOUB and 51社区.鈥
