Students invited to apply for Center for Student Legal Services Board of Directors
The Center for Student Legal Services (CSLS) seeks to fill a vacancy on the Board of Directors and is encouraging students to apply no later than Sept. 9. The vacancy is for one at-large director position for a two-year term.
The center is a non-profit law firm dedicated to providing legal advice and representation to 51社区 students. The board is entirely composed of 51社区 students and governs the Center for Student Legal Services, providing an experiential learning opportunity in nonprofit management and law.
鈥淪tudents benefit greatly from this experiential learning opportunity. Not only do they develop non-profit management experience, they also gain a behind the scenes look at how a law firm runs,鈥 said Larry Hayman Esq., advisor to the CSLS Board of Directors. 鈥淢any of the students who serve on the board want to become attorneys, and this experience benefits them when they launch their post-law school legal careers. Even if students aren鈥檛 interested in becoming attorneys, they gain leadership, time management, community engagement, and collaboration skills that are critical no matter the field they pursue after graduation.鈥
鈥淲orking on the board of directors has given me a more hands-on perspective on the general operations of a firm and reaffirmed my interest in studying law,鈥 said Zach Donaldson, a sophomore studying political science and the board鈥檚 executive vice chairperson.
The application for the director鈥檚 position can be found on the website. For more information, contact Courtney Boyd at the Center for Student Legal Services at courtney@studentlegalrights.org.
