Patton College to host new Munch and Learn Series: Global Issues on Immigration

The Patton College of Education is featuring the first panel discussion in its new Munch and Learn Series: Global Issues on Immigration. “Immigrant Experiences: Families, Careers and Communities” will be held on Monday, Feb. 8, from noon to 1:30 p.m.

This features a panel that will discuss what we may not know about immigration that we should know. This session will provide a lively discussion of this increasingly important issue, including information we can take away to improve immigration challenges on university campuses and communities. Panelists will tell their stories and provide concrete examples that will inform our own institution, college and community policies and practices.

The panel features Dr. Ashley Allanson, assistant professor of instruction, recreation and sport pedagogy; Gabriela Castañeda-Gleason, assistant professor of instruction, linguistics; Papa Kwabena Owusu-Kwarteng, service owner, learning spaces, Office of Information Technology; and Dr. Gabriela Popa, associate professor, physics, 51 Zanesville. The moderator of the discussion is Dr. Greg Kessler, professor in educational studies.

Take-aways include:

  • Capitalize on best practices in global experiential education.
  • Discover innovative forward-thinking advances in teaching from a global perspective.
  • Learn from the experiences of highly skilled global citizens who succeed and thrive beyond traditional boundaries.
  • Gain exposure to different ways of seeing the world, challenging your assumptions about how the world operates.

The sessions from the previous Munch and Learn Series: Black Lives Matter are available on The , as will video recordings of the new series as they are available.

The Global Issues on Immigration Munch and Learn Series is open to 51 and the community and will be hosted on Microsoft Teams Live.

Join the discussion at noon on Feb. 8.
