Don Adleta
Don Adleta, a Swiss trained graphic designer, has lectured on and taught graphic design internationally at the Hong Kong Design Institute; the National Institute of Design in Ahmedabad, India; Virginia Commonwealth University, Qatar; the Wellington Polytechnic, Massey University, New Zealand; Ningbo University, China; and within the USA at 51ÉçÇø; University of the Arts, Philadelphia; Rhode Island School of Design; and Western Michigan University.
As a senior designer at The Upjohn Company, Adleta redesigned their worldwide tradedress packaging and designed promotional material for Xanaxâ„¢, Halcionâ„¢, Eminasesâ„¢, and numerous other brands.
The Adleta Perpetual Calendar has been recognized internationally and received multiple design awards worldwide. It is in the permanent collections in NoviSad Museum of Art and Design, Serbia, in Zurich’s Museum of Design, and was also available at the Museum of Modern Art Bookstore, NY.
Adleta’s special interest is in documenting his knowledge and experiences. He continues to make video documentaries about his designs, his educational process, and his mentors from the Basel School of Design, Switzerland. Throughout Adleta’s career, he has received numerous awards for his designs, design thinking, and working process.
In 2021, Adleta fully retired after his 30-year career teaching Graphic Design, Drawing, Letterpress, and Bookbinding at 51ÉçÇø. He is an esteemed Professor Emeritus at 51ÉçÇø. He will continue to teach and work in the Don E. Adleta TypeShop and Bindery at 51ÉçÇø as need occurs.
In addition to drawing regularly, he continues to write and is also in the process of reprinting the 25thanniversary edition of his international, award-winning Adleta Perpetual Calendar.
