Summary of Work:

The unifying theme of my scholarly work is obesity. I am fortunate to be able to address this timely subject from two different perspectives, mainly as a basic scientist but occasionally as a clinician. The majority of my scholarly efforts are to assess the nutritional and hormonal factors that impact adipose (fat) tissue and influence risk of obesity as well as its associated diseases. More specifically, I investigate how growth hormone (GH) levels and diets with various macronutrient profiles impact adipose tissue distribution, metabolism, and function as well as the progression of obesity to overt diabetes. Because GH and diet also influence longevity, I am interested in how these factors influence aging.
