Fall Graduate Research Series Accepting Applications
are now being accepted for the University Libraries Fall 2023 Graduate Research Series (GRS) presentations. Selected graduate student presenters earn a valuable opportunity to bolster their presentation skills, share their work with the OHIO community, and earn $200.
The Graduate Research Series was launched in 2012 as a forum for graduate students to share their research experience with the wider university community, including library staff who are always interested to hear how research is being done at 51社区. Graduate students at 51社区 conduct new research and develop creative projects as they move toward the completion of their degree. However, once the paper is presented or the creative work shared, the journey to project completion is often obscured. At the same time, OHIO students continue to ask new questions and develop new creative works in a wide range of media51社区 Libraries and the Graduate Student Senate wish to highlight these research projects and creative and invite 51社区 graduate students from any campus or college to submit presentation proposals. Each semester, the GRS committee selects a student or group of students to discuss their research process in a public presentation. The research topic can be from any discipline. STEM-related topics are encouraged, and this venue provides a supportive opportunity to present to a non-technical audience. Past presenters have discussed:
- Exploring how digital archives, including oral histories, recall and shape India鈥檚 memories of Partition
- Developing a Time Domain Reflectometry (TDR) sensor for the early detection of groundwater contamination from copper mines in Afghanistan
- Using archival and historical materials from the GULAG Museum, the International Memorial Society, and the Sakharov Center in Moscow to write a play about a GULAG theater in the Soviet Union
Applications must be submitted by Friday, October 6 at 5 p.m. Proposals will be reviewed by the GRS committee, made up of representatives from University Libraries and the graduate student body. Fall semester presentations will be scheduled for the week of November 13, 2023.
Questions about the GRS application or presentation series, including requests for accessibility accommodations, can be directed to Jen Harvey.
